www.muve.com MUVE-along Show 05/23/11 (abridged). Today's guest Jean Yanagawa has performed Middle Eastern dance (bellydance) for over 30 years; and 25 years of that time instructing. Jean was a founding member, past president and board member of Middle Eastern Dance Artists of Hawai'i, a local non-profit organization established to enlighten and share the joy of bellydance. She is also the Director and Choreographer of her performing dance troupe, BellyDance 808 Hawai'i Raks.
Jean is a third generation instructor of the Salimpour Technique© which has proven to produce outstanding dancers. All beginner students start with Salimpour Technique© which helps them to develop strong foundational skills through focused isolated muscular movements. Jean credits mentor Taia Chard --who was taught by Jamila Salimpour herself-- for her inspiration and ability to breakdown complex movements.
BellyDance 808 Hawai'i Raks performs annually at the Foster Botanical Garden Midsummer Night's Gleam (July), the Discover Moiliili Festival (Oct), The Mayor's Annual Craft Fair (Nov), as well as other public events.
